The Westmoreland Yough Trail Chapter (WYTC) supports and maintains the roughly 11 miles of the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) that runs through the southwest corner of Westmoreland County. The part of the GAP that runs through Cedar Creek County Park is also maintained by the WYTC. The trail is a great resource in the area for hiking and biking and just enjoying nature. After a ride or hike on the trail, the park is a beautiful place to stop for a picnic and watch the Youghiogheny River flow by. Depending on the snow fall and the condition of the trail, it’s also a good place to snowshoe in the winter.
There are many volunteers needed to help maintain this section of the trail so if you’re looking for something to do in your spare time or now that you’re retired, come join us in our efforts to keep this section of the trail maintained and beautiful. Help is always needed for the Trail Appreciation Day in early June and for the annual Poker Run fundraiser on Labor Day morning as well as other administrative and fundraising opportunities.
When you join the WYTC your dues help toward all these efforts. If you think you might want to volunteer, attend one of our monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month at 7:00PM at the Visitor Center in West Newton. Become a member and join us in our efforts along the trail.
Regardless of whether you join us or not our sincere wish is that you safely enjoy the trail!
